For a second there, I thought you said John Loftus.

The conversation on Christians and politics was telling of the problems beneath the surface of Colson's position.
On the one hand, Colson's critique of The Christian Right movement is astute, in that politics are an expression of culture, but on the other hand he still seems stuck in Niebuhr's categories which seem to have led the mainline churches down the wrong path.
Colson: "the ultimate solution is transforming culture, which is what a church is supposed to do."
Jesus: "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place."
Christ's kingdom is "from another place;" it's alien to this culture. The church's job is not to transform culture, it is to remain faithful to Christ. Any transformation of culture that comes about from our allegiance to Christ is purely incidental, so let's not pretend that it's our mandate.

LOL, Sam. I thought John Loftus, too!
And I agree with MijkV. Transformation of culture is an exercise in futility. It's not our purpose. Leave that to the liberals.

We should be transform by the renewal of our minds, which goes beyond all culture and tradition.Christ in us will transcend all of those barriers. The Church in America have made a mistake when trying changing cultures in other nations believing it's the must adecuate way to follow Christ, ineasted of bringing a more solid doctrine:Nevertheless the scriptures admonish the efforts of the saints.

Shouldn't be a surprise that Mr. Colson is on the wrong track - he's so friendly with Rome that it's affected everything he thinks.

So ...... Jesus is not allowed to be Lord of our culture?
