What did Jesus do between the ages of 12 and 30? Why is there no history about Jesus' life during that time?

Are the gospel writers really focusing on his death and resurrection? It seems like (while those are important points) they only devote a few chapters or verses to those themes and the majority is centered around his ministry. Why is that?
Jesus' ministry is a crucial lead up to His death & resurrection. He explained to His disciples why He has to die and the reasons why He came to earth. His ministry years set the context for what would happen on the cross
