Hey, this seems like good news. Red state, two new republican justices making up a conservative Supreme Court and an anti-abortion law.

Seems like good conditions for Roe v. Wade to be overturned.

But hey, we all knew this was coming sometime, right?

Interesting. I can't wait to see what will happen.

Asking people what they think about abortion is sometimes like asking, "Do you believe that women have souls?"

My two cents:

Did you hear about the bill that was passed in South Dakota? YES

Do you think the Senate in South Dakota will pass it also? YES

What do you think would happen to the country if Roe v. Wade were overturned? THERE WOULD BE STATE BY STATE BATTLES TO RESOLVE LEGALITY. MANY NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO ENGAGE PEOPLE ON RELATED BIOTECHNOLOGY AND END OF LIFE ISSUES!

What do you think about abortion, anyway? ABORTION IS A TRAGEDY, MORALLY AMOUNTING TO MURDER OF AN INNOCENT HUMAN BEING.

The bill goes to the Senate, then to the governor. And if it’s still alive after that, will the Supreme Court kill it? YES, I BELIEVE THE COURT IS STILL SPLIT 5-4 IN FAVOR OF ROE. KENNEDY IS THE ONLY POSSIBLE SWING VOTE THAT COULD TIP IT THE OTHER WAY. I DON'T THINK HE WILL BE CONVINCED TO OVERTURN.

Many others have commented on this in other places, but the probable future of Roe is that it will be chipped away at over a large period of time, not overturned whole sale. With this SD law, we'll probably see it found unconstitutional because of lack of mention of health (if that is what it says, I haven't read the bill), but SCOTUS will use this to offer some greater limitations than what is currently available. Or maybe they will go the way of the NH Parental Notification Law and send it back to SD for review.

The last line should read: ...and send it back to SD for review without offering a formal decision regarding the legality of abortion.

OK, Steve got me interested in SD politics :) The next step was taken this morning:
