I had an occasion to visit a Planned Parenthood (PP) booth at a street fair just before the Calif election. Obviously we spoke about the Prop that would have required parental notification. Their first point was that the father could actually be the young girl's dad and this would put the young pregnant girl in jeopardy is parental notification was required. I informed the lady at PP that I retired from the LAPD and was in charge of the Abused Child Unit for the last 5 years of my career. In any case where a girl describes a rape or exhibits child abuse symptoms, local law enforcement and social services are required to be notified. Immediately, the young girl would have been removed from the hostile environment. The lady from PP realized that she was a "mandated reporter" and that she had a duty to inform the authorities. So, the safety of the young pregnant girl was no longer a consideration of the Parental Notification requirement.

The PP lady then said, "Well, it is very embarrassing for a young girl to tell her parents that she is pregnant." The bottom line is that she was comfortable with killing an unborn child and subjecting a young girl to a very traumatic medical procedure because the situation was "too embarrassing" for the girl!!

God helps us all.

There are, I believe, a number of States that have notification laws. is there any peer reviewed research into how they are working? It would seem that such research would help to resolve the issue.

Parental involvement is a must! But a major piece of the reason for that is seriously under-reported: abortion is a major mental health risk factor: see http://www.thinkingchristian.net/C1148465919/E20060224082323/ and http://www.thinkingchristian.net/C246305481/E20061031103307/
