Deut 29.29
:-) Good point - as Christians we should be prepared to use this latest fad as a pointer to the mystery of the gospel. Keep up the good work, Lyn from Thought Renewal

What if two co-workers who dislike each other both use "The Secret" against each other? Do they both end up quitting or do they cancel each other out in some manner???

I was going to buy the book in order to be ready for anyone who brought it up. But after viewing the trailer, I realized I'd seen enough. It's nothing but a new twist on the oldest lie, "You shall be like God..."

The scary part is that some *Christians* are going for it! I was listening to a radio program called Open Line (www.openlineradio.org) and they were talking about it this evening. I was glad they were taking it on, but I was horrified at the number of callers who were actually confused about it. There's nothing here to be confused about!

This is so basic that anyone with a basic knowledge of Scripture should be able to refute it. (Not to mention just common sense, as life simply does not work for anyone the way they are claiming it does by using this 'secret'.)

I agree-I think this whole idea is rediculous. It still amazes me how people can by into this. Doesn't the Bible center in not getting carried away by false teachings? Being in highschool I'm not to sure what my friends think about this heretical idea, but I for one don't believe in it.

A good question, wonder if they have an answer!!!

Now if this secret works I assume that she didn't pay to have the books printed rather she visualised boxes of books sitting at her place ready to be shipped off. I trust that this can be confirmed after all she wrote a whole book telling us it works. lol

That "The Secret" is an open secret is true, we all use "The Law of Attraction one way or the other without knowing that it is "The secret."

The claims are personal things. "Let it be for you as you believe" is also a true diction.

What is clear to me is that you have to believe first in yourself, keep your thoughts positive and cause affirmative actions to manifest your desires in life. A person who believes has better chances of succeeding than the one who doubts.

Your mind receives both negative and positive thoughts, and dwelling on either gives it form, which was why Jesus was quoted as having said; (paraphrasing) "Seek you first the Kingdom of God (within you) and take His righteousness." In other words, HIS unrighteousness is in your mind too. Leave the negative in the mind and act out HIS goodness, and good will follow you.

“You are what you think” is not actually correct. What is correct is that “you are what you act, or allow to manifest in your life from your thoughts.”

"The Secret" DVD and the hype is good for you and all who believe in shunning the negative aspects of their thoughts, it will turn their lives around for the best. Believe you me! Thos who dwell on the negative are not likely to accept “The Secret.”

The last poster seemed to be endorsing this kind of stuff, you're thoughts take on form, they become real, etc...that's bad enough, but to pull Jesus' own words out of context? I draw the line there.
No idea in "the Secret" has any connection to the biblical view of man...end of story. It's just another way to be our own god.

C'mon Christian, you can't get sucked into this stuff!

"In other words, HIS unrighteousness is in your mind too"

Jackson
If you really believe this, then there is nothing in Jesus worth "taking." If he is NOT God in the flesh, as he claimed to be, then he is a fraud of a nut job and there is no righteousness to take. If he is God, then there is NO unrighteousness, and your statement is a defamation of him. Ideas have consequences, and these can't be wished away by the latest version of "name it and claim it" that comes along.

I have read many reactions to “The Secret” DVD, bothering on sheer rebuttal of the claims by the Secret-Maters, and have come to the conclusion that those who desire to make their journey on foot will do so, even if you make an aircraft available for them.

Byrne’s assertion that “the Law of Attraction" is capable of turning your life into good or bad is actually true. You have never experienced or done anything in your life that did not first take form in the mind of God, (or whatever you call the SOURCE) in your own mind or the mind of someone else.

However, what must not be overlooked in all this talk of the “The Secret” is “Affirmative Action,” which again can only be derived from your thought forms. None can think and get anything without causing it through affirmative action to manifest in their life.

In all things there is God, my friend, go read Isaiah 45:7. The owner of the Universe is not irresponsible as you would like to believe. Jesus knew this: "Lead us not into temptaiton, but deliver us from evil." And duirng the hight of Jesus's tribulations: "May your will be done."

All said, note that no one can find what the God or whatever you call the SOURCE has not kept, even as you may not find what is kept, because you look for it, wrongly.

You've lost me, Jackson. While there are definitely benefits to be found in thinking toward the positive rather than the negative (and acting accordingly), the philosophy behind 'The Secret' seems to indicate something further - as if we were truly able to create our own reality.

It's true that thoughts and actions bring results. Negative thoughts and negative actions will bring negative results.

However, sometimes we can be doing all the 'right' things, thinking all the 'right' thoughts, yet life does not work the way we thought it would.

We do not create our own reality. We are not our own god.

Yes, yes, yes, I agree with you, we cannot be our own gods, but God helps those who are up and doing, they say. I bet you did not ask God to help you write your views on this matter, you wrote your thoughts out for us to read.

We are co creators with God in both good and evil. God will help you shine your light, just as He will help you dim it according to the choices you make.

It is true that a creature cannot have an original idea since that will be with the Master-mind, but it is also obvious that our realities are not exactly ready made; we play important roles for our realities to manifest according to the original idea of opposites - from which everyone is free to choose.

If you believe in God, believe also in yourself, your capabilities and your ambitions, which are parts of the divine creation. "The Secret" is about doing things right, against all odds.

Why do you think that Jesus prayed so fervently and his sweat was bloody? And why was his supplication to God in vain?

It was for the same reasons Jesus lacked fighting spirit of self defence before Pilate that made it possible for him to be crucified. He had resigned to a doomed fate of condemnation. Will you do that and expect a reprieve?

It is better to fantasise than to brood bad luck or the end. All the things you see that are manmade were first virtualized, the thoughts took form, before being brought into reality through the affirmative actions of the inventors.

I dare say that God or the SOURCE did exactly the same in creating the Universe and all that it contains. He must have virtualized everything about creation before he said BE or whatever he did to bring everything about. Nothing is ever created in doubt.

Will the secret regrow my hair? Will the secret prevent my death?

Ecclesiastes 12:1
1 Corinthians 15:55

I do happen to think that there is an element of truth to the idea that many of the elements in our lives are purely manifestations of our thoughts. I think that this is a God-given reality. It has to be this way. Much of what has been manifested over the years has first been conceived in someone's mind. Stephen Covey calls this the "first creation" (referring mainly to the principle of goal setting and imagining our lives as how we want them to be). "The Secret" takes this idea one step further and turns this idea into some kind of mystical force that is at your beck and call. I won't go near that far, but I do think we in many ways become what we think about.

"t was for the same reasons Jesus lacked fighting spirit of self defence before Pilate that made it possible for him to be crucified. He had resigned to a doomed fate of condemnation."
Jackson
How did you come to this conclusion? Once again, if Jesus was not who he claimed to be, why even use him as an example. If he was, then what happened to him is EXACTLY what he intended to happen. If he was not, why would anyone want to do ANYTHING he did? If he was not God in the flesh, it doesn't matter what he did or didn't do.
BTW, if "The Secret" works, why not use it to make us all just agree with you and not argue with you?

I think that perhaps what draws people in to the secret is that there is a SMALL SEED of truth in it. That is, its GENERALLY true that positive thinkers make stuff happen more than negative thinkers. Its borders on a truism. That's not a metaphysical thing, nor am I saying that thoughts create reality. Its just that your thoughts do have a bearing on your success in life. When you combine that truism with the fact that many Americans today lack discernment and that the self-focus of it itches the ears of the populace, its no wonder the public is eating it up; that combo is like heroine of the soul!

That being said, I could take umbrage with many of the things Jackson is saying. I will focus on one, however...Jackson, I think the largest lie you've swallowed is that life centers on YOU. The Secret centers on YOU getting YOUR way, getting what YOU want. Having the life YOU have always wanted...in fact, in the book, it says verbatim that "you are the center of the universe."

Ever since the serpent has been the serpent, he's been whispering that in our ears. Jesus, in His Wisdom, confronted that convincingly:
"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?" Mark 8:34-37

In conclusion: the inside flap of the DVD presents a genie-like figure enwrapped in the stars, saying "your wish is my command." Jesus says: Stop rubbin' that lamp and get down and wash some feet.

Oh, and one more thing: when you paraphrased Jesus' words in Matthew 6, why'd you insert that little "within you" in there? You might WANT it to be there, but you are totally twisting Jesus' words...that phrase is nowhere to be found, in either content or intent, in that passage.

Now if this secret works I assume that she didn't pay to have the books printed rather she visualised boxes of books sitting at her place ready to be shipped off. I trust that this can be confirmed after all she wrote a whole book telling us it works. lol

If anyone knows anything about how this is adressed I would love to know.

Wow

Wow, folks, the truth has never been told, it is with the Master-mind. But some of our assumptions may be truths, and even outright lies become our truths without evidence.

Therefore "truths" flourish. The Christian truths, which are averse to the "The Secret’s" truth, can be likened to the "truth" told by the three friends of Job while the truth in the "The Secret" is akin to the truth of Job himself in challenging God to prove him (Job) unworthy. Only those who claim their inheritance shall have it.

The biggest problem of mankind is self condemnation, self deceit and outright falsification of facts. If you condemn yourself, who can salvage you. Jesus? Give me a break!

“The Secret,” merely teaches you how to turn your life around with positive thinking and affirmative actions. What I do not understand here is why such a simple principle is being tied to age old lies and ambiguous claims about a “beginning and end” we will never know about. What can be more fabulous than the religious beliefs of Christians, especially in one who does not know Christianity? He was born a Jew, lived and worshiped as a Jew, and died a Jew. True Jesus’ followers should practice Judaism, period.

Daniel and Rich speak in defense of Jesus, especially Daniel talks about Jesus' Godness, as if Jesus himself ever claimed to be God anywhere in the Bible. What he called himself all the time was the Son of Man. Of course, followers meekly and dubiously foist their leaders with larger than life attributes and images. As for whether Jesus, according to Rich, ever used the little phrase "within you" in Mathew:6, "The Kingdom of God is Within you" is a popular answer Jesus gave to a popular question.

That being said, note that the same principles you are criticizing in the "The Secret" are what Jesus used to get things done as he desired within the time and scope allotted him by the Source of life.

I am amused to read arguments here about the serpent:

“Ever since the serpent has been the serpent, he's been whispering that in our ears.
Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?" Mark 8:34-37.”

Oh Rich, Serpent or Lucifer is just the personification of the negative thoughts of man, for Sunday school children. You should have shaded that by now.

It is the same principles "The Secret" espouses that the Church perverted and used to rule the world and still uses with ulterior motives; for why do you think that adults continue to think like children when it comes to religious myths? Listen, if you think positively about a lie and dwell on it continuously it becomes your truth.

The most absurd of all is for anyone to think that "The Secret" is meant to prevent their death; God or the Source of life graces and withdraws grace…... as a rule to ensure the continuity of creation. Life and Death are divine purposes, “The Secret” is just a way to live life more abundantly, it does not prevent death.

It is true that man has arrogated to himself too much importance than he deserves in the scheme of things. Yet, like I said in an earlier comment, man is a co-creator with God or the Source of life. That being so, he is empowered to create good or evil according to the choices he makes, and those choices he can only make from the jumble of thoughts that show up in his mind. No one creates his own thoughts, but everyone decides which thought or group of thoughts to action.

If what Daniel says is true that what happened to Jesus was what he wanted, then why was he apparently afraid and made every effort to have his tribulation averted? And why when his time came as he had said, did he lament having been forsaken by his father? Everyone of us will behave just as Jesus did, no one wants to die.

All said, I will always cancel my negative thoughts with positive ones and hope for the best - “The Secret”. I will never give up till my time is up. Death is a necessary end, not the wages of sin. The Nazarenes believed what their minds bid them believe, so will anyone even today. That is “The Secret.”

Those of you, like Jonathan, who talk as if "The Secret" claims that you can conjure anything out of the blue hugely miss the point.

Pity all this has come up so late in the disscusion. I hardly know where to start there is so much to cover.

"even outright lies become our truths without evidence" I guess this is as good as any place to start. I really don't see how a lie can become truth ever. A lie is a lie is a lie.
My dictionary defines a lie as an intentional false statement, so how that could ever become truth I don't see. Unless the qualifier is 'without evidence', but then it can't be established as truth either.
Truth is defined as a state of being true, which is defined as 'in accordance with reality.
How THE SECRET can ever be in accordance with reality I don't really see because reality is what each idividual makes for them selves. So if I am creating a different reality than you then I will have a different truth.
Considering the above it is impossible for any one to belive a lie because their beliefs have made it reality.

At least if I have understood the issues correctly in my quick read then this is a real issue to consider.

"Therefore "truths" flourish. The Christian truths, which are averse to the "The Secret’s" truth, can be likened to the "truth" told by the three friends of Job while the truth in the "The Secret" is akin to the truth of Job himself in challenging God to prove him (Job) unworthy. Only those who claim their inheritance shall have it."

Where then is the truth of the fourth friend Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, who was proved true by the answer of God? Also where is the place of the answer that God gave to them all?

"The biggest problem of mankind is self condemnation, self deceit and outright falsification of facts. If you condemn yourself, who can salvage you. Jesus? Give me a break!"

If the above was true, although considering the previous for some it probable is true to themselves, then we would have nothing to worry about. Because the above is false we do have something to worry about. Our biggest problem is, Genesis 2:17 "But the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shaly surely die."

Genesis 3:6,7 details how man ate of that tree, so we are now all spiritually dead without Christ.

Im Christian and i've listened to the audio CD. there is alot that i do agree with because the things that are mentioned are directly in harmony with the bible. of course there are some things that has to be taken with a grain of salt, you should know, as a Christian, what to decipher out of those things. but the main message of the Secret simply put is "faith", unwaivering, unshakable faith. where there is enough faith in anything, it can happen. Jesus himself spoke of this several times to his disciples, "...the faith the size of a mustard see, you will say to this mountain move from here to there, and it will do it for you". there was another incident where someone wanted to be healed by Jesus, Jesus simply stated, "let it happen according to your faith." so the bulk of the Secret contains alot of truth, the only problem i had is that more credit should have been given to God.
