Quickly, name the top 5 Evangelical scholars doing good work in the field of economics and the markets. Can't do it? How about the top 3? Still can't do it? Okay, so maybe this is an area where we need some help. Enter the Acton Institute.
Alan and I had the opportunity to attend their annual university this month. Approximately 30 scholars from around the world attempted to integrate economics, market philosophy and politics with a Christian worldview. Overall, it was fantastic training and an area where Evangelicals need to give more attention. Acton is a tremendous resource and according to Jay Richards, about half their scholars are Protestants. And certainly, their Catholic scholars have much to offer in this area of study as well.
Acton has generously posted the audio from this year's seminars. My top 4 favorite presenters: 1) Jay Richards, 2) Jennifer Roback Morse, 3) Robert Sirico and 4) Michael Miller. Start with their seminars.
Jay is working on a book titled (I believe), A Christian Defense of the Free Market. He mentioned it in a talk he was giving, that I was listening to, that he was working on it. I have a passion to see the Christian worldview infiltrate every last area of the academy, even economics. Great post, Brett.

I am so happy to find/hear about Acton. So much of the praise of capitalism came in decades past from those who call themselves "Objectivists"... Frankly, I have been thinking about how someone like Ayn Rand could get so much right when it comes to the free market but get it so wrong when it comes to God!
I will definitely be checking out Acton!
Are contributions to Acton tax deductible?
