I've often enjoyed remembering Lewis' key remarks in this essay. Two come to mind:

1) Modern literary criticism was often inaccurate in their assessments of Lewis' works and others who would pattern Lewis in their own works without any linkage to Lewis personally.

2) The fact that the Biblical authors were dead would prevent them from asserting how remarkably off the mark the critics were. How convenient for the critics.
