Great post, Amy! And very appropriate for the times. If you have time to check out a book, there is no better, fuller, or clearer treatment available on this very topic than Jonathan Leeman's "The Church and the Surprising Offense of God's Love". It's excellent. He addresses broader culture's misconceptions of God's love, the Church's misconceptions about God's love, and then walks through how God's love revealed through Christ is shown in the life of the local church.
